Road Construction Machines
Although people have moved around since the beginning of time, the formation of roads took a long time. Imagine yourself in the historical road space of the Estonian Road Museum – the first modern highway only appears after the Valkla tavern. In terms of time, this means more than a century. The initiator of these big changes was the internal combustion engine placed on a four-wheel carriage – a car. The first modern roads for cars were built in the United States in the beginning of the 20th century.
The beginning of the automobile era quickly brought about a new field of machine construction – the invention and production of road construction machines. In correlation with overall industrial development, which replaced handicraft with machines, road construction machines have made great progress in a short amount of time.
The exhibition area for road construction machines at the Road Museum represents the cream of the crop of this field. We have equipment that brought about big changes, unique retro machinery, heavy-duty vehicles, and ones representing great engineering accomplishments. All vehicles shown in this area have helped to modernise the Estonian road network in some way or another.
